No foolin' - A Lot Going on at the Library in April
There will be a lot going on in the libraries in April. No foolin'!
Here is a list of some of the special programs and events that are planned:
Kids and Teens
Inspiration Lab, April 8 @ 4:00 pm in the Halifax Farmers' Market parking lot
The Lab, from the Institute of Advanced Learning and Research, is a vehicle that offers hands-on STEM learning activities. There is no charge to attend this program but registration is necessary because we have to guarantee that at least 30 students will attend. Call the Halifax Public Library (434-476-3357) to register a student or send an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and include your name, the student's name, and the current grade level of the student. Students in grades 3-6 will be on the Lab from 4-4:45 and students in grades 7-12 will be on the lab from 5-5:45.
Stuffed Animal Sleepover on April 26 @ 5:00 pm at the South Boston Public Library
A dinosaur theme with snacks and crafts. Kids may bring a stuffed animal friend who will stay overnight in the library. The children will be able to follow the antics of the stuffed animals on social media and to pick them up at the library the following morning.
Kindness Quilt with Miss Sue on April 27 @ 10:00 am at the South Boston Public Library
Join Miss Sue in the garden outside the library to create squares for a kindness quilt. Oh, and we'll have snacks!
Earth Day Craft on April 27 @ 10:00 am at the Halifax Public Library
The library is taking part in the Earth Day activities of the town of Halifax and offering a special Earth Day craft. Stop by the Halifax Public Library between 10:00 am and 11:00 am and make a toilet paper roll birdfeeder using peanut butter and bird seed.

Author Andrea McKinney on April 8 @ the Halifax Public Library at 6:00 pm
Meet local author Andrea McKinney and listen as she discusses her book Oak House: Within Dwells.
The Healthstorian on April 11 in the Halifax Farmers' Market parking lot from 10:30 am-2:30 pm
The Healthstorian is a collaborative venture between a number of entities, including Virginia Tech and Carilion Clinic. It is a mobile recording lab that allows individuals to record and document their health histories and the health histories of their communities. It is similar to NPR's Story Corps but with an emphasis on health.
The Death Café on April 15 @ the South Boston Public Library at 6:00 pm
People who deal with death on a regular basis will come and talk about their experiences and answer questions. A hospice worker will be speaking, as will a representative from a funeral home.
