PLANTS AND MORE COMING MAY 4th
A wide assortment of plants will share the spotlight with many other offerings at the annual Southside Master Gardeners’ PLANT SALE on Saturday, May 4th from 7:30 a.m. - noon in the parking lot in front of the Halifax County Extension Office, 171 S. Main Street, Halifax.
Plants for sale will include annuals, perennials, herbs, vegetables, shrubs and trees. Drought-resistant succulents in hypertufa pots and fairy gardens will be available for shoppers looking for a special garden gift.
If your garden is a bit plain, you’ll want to consider a welded garden sculpture, a “wine chime” or some beautiful painted rocks. Don’t miss the unique handmade houses for the birds, bees, and bats in your yard.
Stop by the Silent Auction table to leave your bid on the lovely “chain pull art” and other items. And don’t miss the chance to buy raffle tickets for TWO SCOOPS OF HARDWOOD MULCH donated by Charles Anderson Lawn Care. This may be your lucky day!!
As you shop, visit the Bake Sale tables for delicious breakfast items and baked goods. The latest edition of the SSMGA Cookbook Thyme to Eat!, featuring favorite recipes by local cooks, will be available at a bargain price.
Near the Bake Sale you can browse a wide assortment of gardening books and magazines, educational pamphlets from Virginia Cooperative Extension, and soil test kits.
Try your hand at growing your own mushrooms! Already-prepared shiitake mushroom logs, along with growing instructions, will be at the Plant Sale.
There are always opportunities to learn at the Plant Sale. Interact with Master Gardeners at exhibits on vermiculture (raising worms), season extenders, herbs, and garden tool care. Bring your small gardening tools for a free cleaning and sharpening—your plants will be glad you did!
